We’re very pleased to announce that Steven Watanabe has agreed to write a weekly column for C++Next called “This Week in Boost.” Steven has been around Boost for several years, impressing everyone with his programming skill and sharp insight. I’ve personally been equally impressed with his humility and his ability to keep up with what’s happening on the Boost list from day-to-day. I can think of no one better suited to bringing us a summary of noteworthy developments. And now, with no further ado… take it away, Steven!

Being a lurker on the mailing list (although time constraints sometimes put me a while back in time — currently, the 28th September is my next digest to read), I’d considered blogging in a similar way, but from an outside perspective, as a kind of power-user. Unfortunately, I never got the time to put this plan into action, so I’m more than delighted to see this take place from inside the Boost Library developer community.
It’s even possible this will stimulate even further developments in Boost – I expect that the readers of this blog will be mostly expert users (dare I say, “fans”) of Boost, and thus it will be (I hope) positioned just right to have the right sort of intelligent questions and comments posted.
Kaz Dragon(Quote)That’s great. This blog has already become one of the best resource on C++ . Keep up the excellent work.
My only (very minor) suggestion for improvement is about the layout… I always have to zoom out since the font is a bit too large. This is particularly evident with nested comments which become otherwise difficult to follow. I experience this both with Firefox and IE.
Francesco(Quote)Wow, Francesco; that’s quite a compliment! Regarding the font size, instead of zooming out, try making your browser window narrower. Is that better?
Dave Abrahams(Quote)Great news! Boost is excellent set of libraries. Wait impatiently…
Denis(Quote)That’s great news. Boost is great and what we need is someone who writes weekly about it.
